Things I Learned This Year

Life isn’t short or long. It’s random. Things happen to us. And then they don’t.

We hit all the red lights and we’re late. Next day we hit all the green lights and we’re early.

My dear friend has cancer. I do not.

But, life IS too short for mediocre music. And mediocre meals.

Life isn’t complicated. People are.

Love isn’t complicated either…

Good/bad hair days are a real phenomenon and they definitely affect our day.

If you can handle hurting someone’s feelings u can probably write a more honest love song.

I suffer from a syndrome I call “reverse-age-dysmorphia".” 😳A lot of people I know have this.

It’s best to wear something black or dark when going out for Italian food or Sushi.

Leave for the airport an hour earlier than necessary no matter what anyone says or how much they roll their eyes. Shit always happens.

Leave 15 minutes early for everywhere else.

Every pet offers emotional support.

It’s better to spend money on one item you adore (that purse, that jacket, that pair of shoes) rather than several more affordable items (over time) that you hope will due. You’ll save money in the long run.

If someone breaks your heart stay busy.

“It’s Temporary” and “It’s always better in the morning” continue to be my go-to mantras for when I’m having a dark day.

Light a candle with dinner even when you’re dining alone.

Always prepare enough for an extra person. You never know who might show up.

Food is to the tongue what music is to the ears.

Own a knife sharpener. Keep a hair tie on your wrist. Lip balm in your pocket. Face masks in your man-purse, car trunk, backpack.

Sometimes we develop a mysterious ailment and never find out what caused it. We have to except it and hope that it goes away as mysteriously as it came. And never returns.

NYC Trader Joe’s stores don’t sell wine! 😫

From the moment we’re born our time is limited. And the way we see things and how much we appreciate are directly related to how close we are to the end.

If I were to be given a terminal diagnosis I would try to think about what good company I’d be in when I crossed over.

I recommend bringing a cup of coffee to your nose for a minute or so before you start sipping. It “pre-extends” the experience.

Getting hour hopes up is good for your soul.

I’d much rather hear a song from someone with a broken heart than from someone who just wants to be famous, no matter how unbelievable the latter can sing.

Don’t promise to keep a secret if you’re prone to forgetting what you promised after a couple of glasses of wine.

Always put stuff down in the same spot so you won’t waste time trying to find things later.

We are where we are because of who we are. Every step we ever took (mistakes and all) put us in the place we are now. We manifest our destiny knowingly or not.

Go where your heart beats faster.

If you wander you will find things.

Also — if you wonder you will find things.

I look forward to seeing what I learn next year. Then again, I’m not so sure I want to know but I’m glad I’m still here to have at it…

…Because life is random.

…And every year is another chance to try.

Here’s to another chance to try.

Pre-extending the experience :)
